WHAT IS ADVOCACY?

Advocacy means taking action to create change. Advocates organize themselves to take steps to confront an issue. They help to give people ways to speak out about things that negatively affect them. Advocacy has been described as "speaking truth to power".

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Individual Advocacy

In individual advocacy a person or group of people concentrate their efforts on just one or two individuals. According to the group Advocacy for Inclusion "Advocacy is having someone to stand beside you if you think something is unfair or that someone is treating you badly and you would like to do something to change it."

There are two common forms of individual advocacy - informal and formal advocacy. When people like parents, friends, family members or agencies speak out and advocate for vulnerable people this is termed informal advocacy. Formal advocacy more frequently involves organizations that pay their staff to advocate for someone or for a group of individuals.

Advocacy is active promotion of a cause or principle

Advocacy involves actions that lead to a selected goal

Advocacy is one way to approach a issue

Advocacy is building evidence on what needs to change and how to make it happen

Advocacy is giving voice to those affected by certain issues

Advocacy influence those in power to provide leadership, take action and provide resources

MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKING

Courage, change, innovation and resilience are skills you and your teams can develop. And you don’t have to go it alone or reinvent the wheel.

The ultimate goal of a motivational speaker is to change people profoundly on an emotional and/or mental level, and to help them make some kind of professional or personal change in their lives and within themselves. People naturally tend to focus on all their problems, and the motivational speaker will help an audience to focus on the many opportunities instead, by using any number of persuasive speech tactics to inspire and motivate.

Let us know about your culture, biggest challenges, how you do leadership and innovation, and where you are, relative to where you want to be. My job is to work on threading your objectives into our message to create a speech that knocks the socks off business-as-usual.

Our presentations are a multi-media experiences, packed with stories and valuable take-aways. My goal is to inspire you and your team to think and act differently.

CONSULTANCY

A therapeutic consultant is a licensed or otherwise credentialed professional who is skilled in dealing with therapeutic issues. They also understand the complex nature of problems related to mental health, addiction, behavioral problems, learning differences and a variety of other issues that teens, young adults and even older adults often experience. A therapeutic consultant is a professional who can guide you and offer valuable direction. These services ensure that an individual’s needs are matched to the right type of help, increasing the chance of a successful outcome for your loved one.

Consulting is the service you seek to answer a specific problem using the expert knowledge of a professional. A consultant has specialized knowledge and expertise on the process or the problem that is of interest to you.

A consultation will be a short term engagement on one specific topic. Consultants work with individuals, families, groups and organizations. Occasionally teaching or training will be part of the engagement.

FACILITATING BEHAVIOR CHANGE

The Stages of Change model is useful for identifying appropriate interventions to foster positive behavior change (Table 6); by identifying where a person is in the change process, interventions can be tailored to the person's "readiness" to change

(Zimmerman et al., 2000).

Anything that moves a person along the continuum towards making a positive change should be viewed as a success. Once the person reaches the contemplation stage, additional strategies can be employed to help the person move along the stages of change.

It is important to evaluate a person's readiness to change for any proposed intervention (Zimmerman et al., 2000). Interventions that are not staged to the readiness of the individual will be less likely to succeed. Also, interventions that try to move a person too quickly through the stages of change are more likely to create resistance that will impede behavior change.
